1. Bible Versions

Over the years (Hundreds of Years) many translations from the origional Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic language have been published.   Although not the first, the most notable early translation is the Kings James Version (KJV)  Most people are familar with this and its rather archaic language.   At the time it was published it would have been very understandable and is still regarded today as a good translation.   There are however many translations that are better to use for your various needs.   When picking a version to study from it is important to use a version that will allow you to explore the text in a faithful way.   Some versions like the New Jerusalem or the CEV or the Message were made particularly for their readabillity.   Theses are great translations to be read outloud or to your self to gain the flow and context of the text.   If however you want to do some serious study and interpretation you should use a version that was designed for that purpose.    I would suggest the NIV, NASB or the RSV   All of these versions have exemplary scholarship and will be very faithful to the origional text.
